How Many Days Do You Need in Bali? A Realistic Guide

Planning a trip to Bali and wondering how long you should stay? Bali is an island with an incredible amount to experience – from beaches and temples to volcanoes, jungles, and small paradise islands. How many days you need in Bali therefore depends on what you want to experience.

Here's a realistic guide to how long you should plan to stay in Bali.

Short answer: How long should you stay in Bali?

For most travelers, we recommend:

  • 7–10 days – good for a first visit
  • 10–14 days – perfect for experiencing multiple areas
  • 14+ days – ideal if you want to explore the islands around Bali

If you're traveling all the way from Norway, we recommend at least 10–14 days to make the most of your trip.

10–14 days in Bali – the perfect length

This is the most popular length for a Bali trip.

You'll have time for both relaxation and experiences without feeling rushed.

An example itinerary:

Uluwatu (4 days)
Luxury villas, surf beaches, and spectacular sunsets.

Ubud (3–4 days)
Culture, nature, and jungle.

Nusa Lembongan or Nusa Penida (3–4 days)
Crystal clear waters and island paradise.

Many also include a Mt. Batur sunrise trek along the way.

You can then also include:

  • Lombok – beautiful beaches and fewer tourists
  • Komodo – Komodo dragons and fantastic nature

Why you shouldn't spend too little time in Bali

Many underestimate how big Bali actually is.

Travel time between areas can be:

  • Uluwatu → Ubud: approx. 2–3 hours
  • Ubud → harbor to Nusa Islands: approx. 2–2.5 hours
  • Transport to Mt. Batur: 2–3 hours

If your trip is too short, you might end up spending a lot of time in a car.

Best itinerary for first-time travelers

If you've never been to Bali before, we often recommend this combination:

  1. Uluwatu – beaches and luxury
  2. Ubud – nature and culture
  3. Nusa Lembongan or Penida – island paradise

This route offers a perfect balance between experiences and relaxation.

Bali can be visited all year round, but the best months are:

May – October
